Rally this spring and seize the day! Synopsis: Young newspaper sellers on the streets of New York City unite against powerful publishers to protest unfair conditions and fight for what’s right. Inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this rousing 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical based on the 1992 film is filled with song, dance, spirit, and heart.

There are three ways that students may participate in Newsies Jr: 

1. All interested students are encouraged to audition with Break a Leg Theater Works via initial video submission (due June 3rd) and attend in-person callbacks on June 8th. Roles may be double cast; students who are double cast will get to perform their principal role in 2 of the 4 performances and perform in the ensemble in the other 2 performances. Those selected will begin rehearsals early with Break a Leg on selected days in June and July (based on student availability), and may participate in a dance intensives with Thayne Jasperson on Sunday July 14th and Monday July 15th (students who are not available for this early dance intensive are still encouraged to audition)

2. Camper Only - Performer: This track is for any and all interested students who would like to be a part of our production as part of the ensemble, no auditions required. Performers will get a chance to work with Thayne Jasperson during this two-week camp and learn choreography for the bigger production numbers, as well as music and scene study with Kyle & Healy, Co-Directors of Newsies Jr. and Founders of  Break a Leg Theater Works. 3. Camper Only - Tech Track: This track is for students interested in working backstage on in production design and managements. Students will learn from BAL alumnus Sadie Maw who is currently studying Stage Management at Indiana University. Students in this track will work as crew in during the performances, and may help with lighting, costumes, props. makeup, set design, stage crew and stage management.
